Operation end time¶
Operation end time; from casestart (clinical table).
| Name in the dataset | opend |
| Type | time |
| Stored in | clinical_data.csv |
| Stamped by | Hospital records clock |
| Unit | sec |
Description¶
Charted clock minute modelled as an offset from the recording end (device time). See the Timestamps section.
How its time was recorded is described with Anaesthesia record events.
Measurement space¶
Vertical slices through the measurement space: how the true value is spread around a recorded one, for 3 recorded minutes of the hour chosen to show the different cases. Each panel has its own scale. Each is averaged over every record with that minute in the release, from the pinned model; groups of fewer than 20 records are not shown.
- :10 (the commonest recorded value; 530 records): mean +2.73 min, SD 1.78 min, 95% between +0.0632 and +7.17. Rounding: floor_5min 91%, floor_10min 8%.
- :30 (the widest; 482 records): mean +2.93 min, SD 2.82 min, 95% between +0.0524 and +8.69. Rounding: floor_5min 89%, floor_10min 8%, floor_30min 2%.
- :55 (the narrowest; 473 records): mean +2.51 min, SD 1.44 min, 95% between +0.0607 and +4.81. Rounding: floor_5min 99%.
Time¶
Its time side is still to be described.
Value¶
| Model kind | timestamp_model: fitted reference-offset model; posterior over the true event time |
| Resolution | heaped: a mixture of rounding modes (see the value model) |
| Status | measured |
| Studies | How the operation end time was charted |
In this release¶
How wide the true-value distribution is, record by record, over 5,850 of 6,388 records (all clinical rows) that have one. Computed with the pinned model, aggregates only.
| Median | p10 to p90 | |
|---|---|---|
| Standard deviation | 83.7 sec | 68.1 to 114 sec |
| 95% interval width | 282 sec | 248 to 508 sec |
| Mean minus recorded | 162 sec | 82.3 to 206 sec |
Value model¶
Model file: …/models/opend.model.json. Read from the pinned snapshot of vitaldb-resolution at commit bb03ddfc8a (2026-10-18).
How a true value becomes the recorded one. The rules are tried in order: a record not taken by an earlier rule is taken by this one with the probability shown (where its condition holds); the last rule takes the rest. With no conditions, the shares follow directly.
| Order | Rule | Rounds to | Probability if reached | Share of records |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | floor_30min | 30 clock minute (floor) | 0.3 % | 0.3 % |
| 2 | floor_10min | 10 clock minute (floor) | 4.1 % | 4.1 % |
| 3 | floor_5min | 5 clock minute (floor) | 95.8 % | 91.5 % |
| 4 | clock_minute | 1 clock minute (floor) | the rest | 4.1 % |
| Recorded resolution | 1 min (chronon) (modelled at 1) |
| True-value density | reference_offset_spline |
| Covariates | ref |
| Fitted on | 5,850 records (clinical_data.csv) |

Time and value together¶
Coupled. The value is itself a time: its value side and its time side are the same uncertainty.
Observations¶
| Observation | Status | Summary |
|---|---|---|
| Op end was filled in from the recording end in 537 cases | established | In 537 cases (8.4%) the op end is exactly 10 minutes before the end of the recording, so it was filled in rather than charted. These cases are concentrated in thoracic surgery and under sedation or spinal anaesthesia. |
Studies¶
| Study | Date | Status | Summary |
|---|---|---|---|
| How the operation end time was charted | 2026-10-18 | current | The charted operation end time is a mixture of 4 ways of writing a clock time (floor_30min, floor_10min, floor_5min, clock_minute), modelled as an offset from a device time. |
