Anesthesia start time¶
Anesthesia start time; from casestart (clinical table).
| Name in the dataset | anestart |
| Type | time |
| Stored in | clinical_data.csv |
| Stamped by | Hospital records clock |
| Unit | sec |
Description¶
Charted clock minute modelled as an offset from the recording start (device time). See the Timestamps section.
How its time was recorded is described with Anaesthesia record events.
Measurement space¶
Vertical slices through the measurement space: how the true value is spread around a recorded one, for 4 recorded minutes of the hour chosen to show the different cases. Each panel has its own scale. Each is averaged over every record with that minute in the release, from the pinned model; groups of fewer than 20 records are not shown.
- :40 (the commonest recorded value; 633 records): mean +0.753 min, SD 5.36 min, 95% between -11.1 and +14.4. Rounding: nominal_0740 39%, nearest_5min 34%, nearest_10min 14%.
- :42 (the narrowest; 123 records): mean +0.495 min, SD 0.293 min, 95% between -0.133 and +0.891. Rounding: clock_minute 100%.
- :25 (unlike the others; 154 records): mean +0.198 min, SD 1.19 min, 95% between -2.39 and +2.22. Rounding: nearest_5min 64%, clock_minute 36%.
- :10 (unlike the others; 229 records): mean +0.0181 min, SD 2.08 min, 95% between -4.55 and +4.24. Rounding: nearest_10min 41%, nearest_5min 37%, clock_minute 21%.
Time¶
Its time side is still to be described.
Value¶
| Model kind | timestamp_model: fitted reference-offset model; posterior over the true event time |
| Resolution | heaped: a mixture of rounding modes (see the value model) |
| Status | measured |
| Studies | How the anesthesia start time was charted |
In this release¶
How wide the true-value distribution is, record by record, over 6,387 of 6,388 records (all clinical rows) that have one. Computed with the pinned model, aggregates only.
| Median | p10 to p90 | |
|---|---|---|
| Standard deviation | 66.6 sec | 17.3 to 141 sec |
| 95% interval width | 269 sec | 57 to 546 sec |
| Mean minus recorded | 28.8 sec | -13.5 to 31.6 sec |
Value model¶
Model file: …/models/anestart.model.json. Read from the pinned snapshot of vitaldb-resolution at commit bb03ddfc8a (2026-10-18).
How a true value becomes the recorded one. The rules are tried in order: a record not taken by an earlier rule is taken by this one with the probability shown (where its condition holds); the last rule takes the rest. Shares of all records depend on the conditions and the true value, so the model must be evaluated for them; the probabilities below are the fitted ones.
| Order | Rule | Rounds to | Probability if reached | Applies when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | nominal_0740 | written as 460 | 13.2 % | true clock minute in [440, 480); reference clock minute in [390, 540) |
| 2 | nominal_0730 | written as 450 | 9.6 % | true clock minute in [430, 470); reference clock minute in [390, 540) |
| 3 | nearest_10min | 10 clock minute (nearest) | 11.5 % | varies with emop, ref_window |
| 4 | nearest_5min | 5 clock minute (nearest) | 21.7 % | varies with emop, ref_window |
| 5 | clock_minute | 1 clock minute (floor) | the rest | always |
- nominal_0740: first-case start written as 07:40 when the true start is 07:20-08:00; window width not identifiable (+-20 and +-40 fit equally)
- nominal_0730: first-case start written as 07:30 when the true start is 07:10-07:50
| Recorded resolution | 1 min (chronon) (modelled at 1) |
| True-value density | reference_offset_spline |
| Covariates | ref, ref_window (first_case if recording starts 06:30-09:00; evening_night if it starts 19:00-06:00; otherwise day), emop |
| Fitted on | 6,387 records (clinical_data.csv) |
| BIC | 43,535 |
| Fitted | 2026-10-18 |
Time and value together¶
Coupled. The value is itself a time: its value side and its time side are the same uncertainty.
Studies¶
| Study | Date | Status | Summary |
|---|---|---|---|
| How the anesthesia start time was charted | 2026-10-18 | current | The charted anesthesia start time is a mixture of 5 ways of writing a clock time (nominal_0740, nominal_0730, nearest_10min, nearest_5min, clock_minute), modelled as an offset from a device time. |
